Life as a college student comes with some awesome perks when it comes to entertainment. Streaming service Hulu now offers a $1.99 monthly plan for college students. The plan is regularly $5.99 a month.

Hulu's streaming plan for college students

Hulu is one of the most popular streaming services out there. They offer access to live television as well as on-demand movies and TV shows. The Hulu student plan is a deal at just $1.99 a month, but it’s only available for their ad-supported plan. If you’re OK with commercials, you’ll save $4 a month as this plan is normally $5.99 a month. That’s a 65% discount!

To qualify for the Hulu student plan, you'll need to prove that you're currently a college student. Hulu uses a company called Sheer ID, which takes you through a verification process to prove your status. After you sign up, you can stream your content on any computer, smart TV, tablet, phone, or gaming console via the official Hulu app.

What other streaming plans offer student discounts?

Hulu isn't the only entertainment streaming service that offers discounts for current college students. In addition to the Hulu student plan, you can also score discounted rates for subscriptions to YouTube, Amazon, CBS, Apple, and Spotify.

CBS All Access

CBS All Access, which offers on-demand shows without commercials, costs $9.99 per month and offers streaming from channels like MTV, CBS, BET, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central. In addition to on-demand streaming of broadcast television series, CBS All Access also comes with original shows like "Star Trek Picard."

Students receive a discount of 25% off the $9.99 monthly rate, and any student who loves watching sports will probably want to check out the service. All live sports that air on CBS are available to CBS All Access subscribers on any device they stream.

YouTube Premium

YouTube offers two discounted student plans with their YouTube Music Premium service and their YouTube Premium service. The music service features music streaming and is available for $4.99 a month. For video streaming, YouTube Premium is $6.99 per month.

Like Hulu, YouTube works with Sheer ID to verify student status, and your college must participate in the YouTube student membership program. Your YouTube student rate will last for four years, and you'll need to re-verify your student status each year to continue receiving the discounted rate.

Spotify for Students

You can use Spotify for free, but the paid version comes with some awesome features that may make you want to upgrade to the subscription plan. Normally, a Spotify subscription costs $9.99 a month, but students are eligible for the Spotify Premium Student plan at a discounted monthly rate of $4.99.

One of the cool features of the Spotify student plan is that you can add on the ad-supported Hulu subscription and access to the movie network Showtime for no additional cost.

Other features of a paid Spotify subscription is that you can make your own playlists, as well as access the playlists of other users. Spotify also features several original podcasts, and it's an excellent platform for discovering new artists who publish their content solely on Spotify.

Apple Music Student Plan

Like Spotify, Apple Music features streaming playlists and the option to play entire albums by your favorite artists. One of the perks of signing up for Apple's service is that it comes with three months free before the $9.99 per month charge begins. For students, the Apple Music plan is discounted to $4.99 per month.

If you don't have an iPhone or an Apple computer, you can still sign up for Apple Music and use the service as a student. The company has made apps that work on Android phones running version 5.0 or later. The service is also available on Chromebooks that run the Android software, as well as any device that has Chromecast and the ability to download the Apple Music app.

Amazon Music Unlimited

Amazon’s ad-free Amazon Music Unlimited streaming plan boasts a catalog of 70 million available songs. The plan is normally $7.99 a month, but current students can qualify for a reduced rate of $4.99 a month for the plan.

In addition to offering ad-free service, Amazon's service also features hands-free listening via Alexa, which is the company's virtual assistant. If you have an Amazon Prime membership for students, you can get an even less expensive Amazon Music Student subscription of $1.99 a month.
